Paolo posted this picture on facebook this morning - he is back at work.
Last fall the store he worked for closed tossing him out of work. Of course, it was not a sudden thing. It had been discussed for years so we knew it was coming and we prepared for it. We took advantage of the fact that he wouldn't be working in retail at Christmas for the first time in 17 years and went away for three weeks.
Prepared . . .
You prepare your way and we'll prepare ours . . . *smile*
Anyway.
He applied for a poition with Target as they prepared to launch in Canada (woo hoo) and just before we left for Italy he was offered a job. Happy days! There was a stipulation - he had to move to the store close to where we lived.
His old store was a 10 minute walk followed by a 45 minute bus ride from home. . . with a wonky bus schedule. The store they wanted him to work for is 10 minutes by foot.
I had been telling him to move closer to home for years. I am aware that 'I told you so' isn't an attractive trait but it is nice to be proven right from time to time. He is thrilled to be at work so quickly and easily!
The other challenge was that his shift is scheduled to start at 4 am.
OUCH
For Paolo this is a problem. There are those (like me) who can awaken at the wee hours of the morning, shake their heard, and move out into the world as pleasant, happy folks. Then there are those who are vile cretins at the wee hours. Paolo is of the cretin camp.
Don't get me wrong, by 9 am he is a dream, but before that . . . look out!
Today was his first 4 am shift and it was a challenge. None of us slept well last night. The cats are all confused.
It will take some time to get used to this.
Nonetheless, he is working again. He LOVES the new job. LOVES the way Target treats their employees and the way people feel valued to be a part of the team. The 4 am start time will work itself out over time . . .
Good luck1 I'm sure you will adapt.

Our Target's all have a Starbucks inside... That would help with the 4AM shift.
Not Much...
but every little bit helps!

Best Wishes to Paul...sounds idyllic to be 10 minutes from work!! As the mother of a USA swimmer, that 4:00 a.m. time frame doesn't frighten me much, years and years of doing that...but all the same, I'm happy the swimmer is at college and I am no longer a part of that early rising! Happy to hear Paul is happy with his new management...makes such a difference in life when one is happy at work.

The Starbucks isn't open at 4 am Sandi. Believe it or not he has been going to McDonalds for his coffee! ACK
Hopefully we'll figure this sleep pattern out soon Kate!
