It feels as if the gates have hell have opened up and released devilish heat as I prepare this post . . . as a result I've decided to post some pics of cooling water and ocean breezes for Travel Tuesdays. These are from our trip to Maine in 2009.
It was Paul's birthday whilst we were away and we made this cake for his birthday. Mom was mocking it earlier this week - I thought it was pretty good considering we were on a wee island off of the coast of Maine. Apparently she had been waiting 5 years to voice her opinion . . . LOL
In less than a week we'll be in Boston - a city we have never been to. After that we'll be spending a weel on Cape Cod in a cottage that we rented in Wellfleet. While everyone has told us for years that we would love Cape Cod it is another area of the planet we have yet to visit.
I thought for travel Tuesdays I'd feature some shots from our previous visits to the costs - yes, I know Maine is far rockier than Cape Cod but it is the best we have at this point! LOL
Be sure to pop on over to Sandi's blog to see what else is happening on Travel Tuesdays!
I debated posting a picture of my least favourite US Presidential candidate or the current Canadian Prime Minister for there are few more spooky than those two but I decided to keep things non-political for a change. *smile*
A few years ago when we were in Maine we hiked through a forest where we found this abandoned cemetery. We thought this was spooky!
This week's Photo Hunt theme is 'symbolic'. Oh my. I have an embarassment of riches for this one. The challenge is finding one of two shots with which to play!
I was going through some pictures form our trip to Maine back in 2006 and came upon these shots which were taken in the town of Blue Haven. This vacant lot next to the legion had rows and rows of white flags - each one a symbol of lives lost - American soldiers and Iraqi civilians during the war in Iraq.
It's a tricky day for Travel Tuesday - Sandi's blog round up of travel related posts. Tricky because it is also Vanentine's Day . . . and I had alreayd used my Heart picture from San Francisco for Saturday photo hunt. These are challenging issues for bloggers.
I know, I know . . . get a real problem Jerry!
Anyhow I remembered our 2010 to Maine. We stopped in the lovely town of Rockland, Maine to tour the Farnsworth gallery. They were featuring an exhibit of work by Robert Indiana a 60's pop-art veteran who has made Maine his home for years.
outside the gallery was this piece of art - perfect for a Travel Tuesday Valentine's Day edition!
This week's Photo Hunt theme is 'gather'. At first I thought I had nothing for this week's theme . . . funny how often we photo hunters go there . . . only to find that in our files we have many more pictures than we ever imagined.
I decided to go with some pictures from our trip to Maine a number of years ago - perhaps I'm thinking about summer now that winter has finally arrived here in the Toronto area!
Seals gathered on a rock scatching some rays . . .
Lobster traps gathered on the pier. . .
Gathered for the 4th of July parade . . .
We wondered how many people still gathered at this old church . . .
This week's Photo Hunt theme is mother. Somewhere I have a beautiful shot of a mother duck leading 9 ducklings in a pond at sunset. It's an amazing shot - take my word for it. Do you think I could find it? ARGH
I blame that on the fact that I took my own mom on a wine and food extravaganza in Niagara yesterday . . . perhaps all of that vino wasn't conducive to me being able to manage the PC today! *smile*
Instead a few shots of mom while off on some of our many travels over the years:
Mom enjoying lunch in the garden after a tour of Korbel during our visit to San Francisco/Sonoma. Don't ask about my sister's stupid Diet Pepsi bottle. Don't.
Thinking about getting the 'perfect shot' while we waited for the Art Institute of Chicago to open for the day.
On San Giorgio Maggiore looking towards San Marco Square, Venice. AKA the day we learned how to beat the cruise ship hordes and find tranquility while in Venice.
Touring the Coliseum in Rome (and soon to get lost which resulted in ME getting lost trying to find her thereby resulting in the mom minder rule).
Getting ready to tuck into her favourite - lobster - at the cottage we rented in Maine.
Checking out the goods after a morning of apple picking.
Lots of travels, laughter and fun!
Lots of the slow travel community members also photo hunt when they aren't traveling. You can find their posts by clicking the links below.
We left the snow behind and headed to California for a long weekend of fun. We shoppedm toured wineries, tasted olive oil, met up with good friends, and ate some wonderful food. I can't wait for slow bowl 2009.
