Today's is Mother's Day here in North America.
Paul and I are hosting dinner for our moms and guests. Much of the menu was planned 'on the fly' yesterday as we wander about the various markets and shops.
Today we are good to go: we've planned, shopped, and started the prep work.
This is the menu for dinner. Both my mom and Paul's mom love seafood so they should be purring with this . . .
Scallop, Avocado Bruschetta
Assorted chilled seafood:
- Lobster claws
- Crab claws
- Shrimp
Cheese and crackers
Zen Martinis (Green Tea martinis)
Tuscan Grilled Pork Roast
White Bean Salad
Asparagus bundles with Prosciutto and grated Parmesan
Fiddleheads
Rolls
Red Wine
Strawberry Meringue Torte
Ice Wine Wine
Last night we were watching the food network because there was nothing else on. We ended up watching "Giada's Weekend Getaway", where host Giada DeLaurentiis gets creative with the perfect three-day, food-filled weekend in Santa Fe, New Mexico. From a nibble of chocolate art to the birthplace of the breakfast burrito, our host has a taste of tantalizing tapas, a bite of the best chile relleno and a turn at spinning some pottery, all before a sweet view of the entire Sangre de Christo Mountains. One look at the breakfast burrito and Paul was saying 'I want one of those for breakfast tomorrow morning!"
Of course I didn't have all of the ingredients (even though all of yesterday was spent on a quest for food stuffs) so today it was back to the 24 hour grocery store. It was funny standing in line at the cash - it was full of dad's buying stuff to make a special breakfast for their resident 'mom'. It would appear that many moms are receiving breakfast in bed and flowers.
On the way back from the store I was listening to the radio. The newscaster was telling about a survey of moms and what they really wanted for Mother's Day: time to help them achieve balance in their lives. I am not thinking that many of the dad's found a box of that on the shelves this morning!
Happy Mother's Day all!
Gosh that sounds good! Am sure they have been thoroughly spoilt and enjoyed their day.
I was able to speak with my mom this afternoon. It is mother's day in South Africa as well.

Robert - it must be difficult to be separated so far from your mom (although there are days I wished my mom lived more than 15 minutes away :-)
I am sure that she appreciated your call!
