As a teacher the Labour Day weekend means the end of summer for me. While I was still in the classroom it meant my 'freedom' was done and I would soon be back into the whirlwind created by interacting with 30 adolescents for another school year. Even though I have not been in the classroom for close to 10 years and now work throughout the summer, the Labour Day Weekend still is significant.
This year we were able to spend it at a wonderful cottage which my friend Ruth found on-line. Normally we spend a long-weekend camping with Ruth, her sister Rose and Rose's long suffering spouse - Dave. For one reason or another we never booked camping this year but we all started to whine about how much we missed our annual drink, laughter, and food frolic.
Ruth, ever the organizer, decided to see if she could rent a cottage for this weekend. This is not easy you understand, especially six weeks prior to the start of the said weekend! Ruth sent around a bunch of links to various cottages which were available. None of which any of us liked. Finally, in exasperation she asked us to list the things we were looking for in a cottage. Presumably the hope was that is she knew exactly what we wanted she might just be able to match up our dreams with something that was available.
Ruth did a fine job on the cottage selection! We just returned from a wonderful weekend of good food, drinks, fun, and laughter! Instead of spending the last weekend before 'back-to-school' time feeling depressed I had an amazing time.
Some random photos from the weekend:
The fridge, stocked with food for 5 (yes, five! LOL) for the weekend.
Dave opening up the 3 litre bottle of red wine that Ruth had brought with her. Paul and I had originally given it to her as a house warming gift last year. She thought that she might actually be able to drink it on this long weekend food and drink extravaganza. She was correct, we knocked it back!

Looks like a wonderful cottage and sounds like you all thoroughly enjoyed yourselves! Good on you.

It was so nice to get away Rose - staying at the cottage brought back all of those childhood memories of times spent on Whitestone Lake!
