Finally - wireless!
We arrived in Savannah yesterday and immediately walked out of the airport into a wall of humidity. What a nice change from a slow to depart winter at home!
We had no trouble getting into the city and finding the tourist office where we got a parking pass. For $ 8 it is good ay most meters and lots in the city - what a great deal!
The carriage house, where we are staying with Palma and Brad, is behind the house where most of the planners are staying. It isn't huge but it makes a very luxurious and calm place to unwind (as compared to the house where the planners are working away to make everything perfect!)
Once we were settled, we hopped back into the car for a quick drive to the nearest grocery store to stock up on essentials - coffee cream pour moi and diet coke and tasty cakes for Paul. By the time we got back to the house the informal wine and cheese was well underway.
About 60 of the slowtravelers and their guests descended upon the house where we enjoyed lots of wine (some 30 bottles), cheese and snacks. While the wine and cheese was amazing the company was even better. It was great to catch up with folks we hadn't seen for some time or to finally meet others we had only chatted with over the internet.
At 7 pm everyone left for the various activities throughout the city. Paul and I helped to tidy up and we went to dinner with John, Gail, Sandi, and Bill at the Chart House. Now I had mocked Sandi for making reservations at a chain restaurant but in fairness to her this was no Red Lobster. I had the most amazing Mahi Mahi served with a Macadamia nut Crust - YUM Dinner wasn't very expensive - the two of us managed to stuff ourselves greatly and only dropped $ 120.
We walked back to the house and tumbled into bed. It had been a LONG day of travel, laughter, wine, and food. I had no idea how tired I was until my head hit the pillow and I passed out immediately. I even managed to sleep through a torrential thunderstorm that had such severe lightening the sky was lit up like day. I was unconscious until almost 7 which is sleeping in for me!
It sounds as if you're in for a very fun weekend, Jerry! I'm anxious to hear more.
