It doesn't seem possible. The turning of the years would indicate that today I am 45 but I don't seem a day over 20. What has happened? Where has the time gone?
I suspect that I am not the only one who feels far younger than they actually are. Perhaps that is a indicator of a life well lived. Let's go with that. Others might suggest senility - they are evil and should be shunned.
I am good at the shunning. In a past life I clearly was a Mennonite!
The day started with a friend of mine sending me one of those 'If you're born today' things that she had found on the internet. According to the fine folks at cafeastrology.com this is what the year ahead has in store for me:
When a Quarter Moon occurs in your Return chart, as it does this year, you are at some sort of a turning point in your life, in terms of personal growth. Events that occur this year act as catalysts that get you in touch with some important issues in your emotional life. Your emotions run high, and mood swings or identity crises are possible. There may be some kind of conflict in your life arising from a great urge to do something different. It promises to be a busy, dynamic, and significant period in your life.
Busy, busy, busy! The Sun conjunct Mercury in your Solar Return chart suggests that you have a lot to do this year. At times, you may feel like the pace of your life is running ahead of you. You can be especially productive, however, in all types of communications--writing, speaking, learning, teaching, and so forth. Advances in intellectual and mental pursuits are likely, as you make steady progress that has long-lasting results.
With Saturn transiting sextile to your Sun until September, work you have done begins to pay off. You may be recognized or rewarded in some way for the efforts you put forth. Because you project a more responsible and credible “you”, people in authority tend to be more inclined to appreciate you and recognize your work. This is a period in which you put your life in order in some significant manner. The key to success is adopting a realistic, practical, disciplined, and orderly approach to your life.
Both the Sun and Mercury form a pleasing trine to Uranus, and you are able to pick things up quickly, invent, or discover something quite intuitively. There may be unexpected and pleasant news this year that enhances your life. You are able to find new insight into old problems, and your thinking processes during this period are likely to be especially original. This is a good year for projects involving technology or New Age topics. You may find more opportunities to attend meetings and other organized group activities, to communicate online, and to take part in activities involving computers, scientific projects, or metaphysics. Unexpected gains may be realized through such mediums. Your intuition is strong, and insights seem to come from "out of the blue". Original, creative ideas are easy to come by this year.
It’s easier than ever to express your unique individuality, and if this involves changing careers or jobs, a new love affair, or an entirely new hobby, it’s something that takes you forward into unexplored territory. You are more willing to adapt to new circumstances, ideas, and unfamiliar situations this year. It's a good time to join organizations and groups and to attend meetings or social events. You are able to find creative solutions to problems now. Flexibility is the key to success under this influence. Your personality is sparkling this year, which is sure to attract new circumstances and people into your life.
With Mars trine the Moon's North Node, you may be actively involved with teamwork and collaboration with others this year. This can also indicate an increased need for sexual union, as it stirs the passions and generally indicates ease in satisfying one's desires through positive connections with others. Jupiter conjunct Chiron and Neptune in your Solar Return chart suggests that idealistic and humanitarian goals or impulses have more significance in your life this year. You may experience an increased need for greater understanding, wisdom, and awareness, as well as increased interest in the healing arts and holistic health this year. It may be a time during which you reconsider or revamp your personal belief system. Everyday, ordinary life may not always satisfy, as you hunger for a more idealistic life. Neptune moving very slowly at the time of your birthday this year places emphasis on spirituality and creativity on one hand, and the possibility of confusion and illusion on the other.
New insights into old problems help to inject fresh energy into your year. Your ability to remain flexible is the key to success. You are especially productive and busy. There is much to learn this year. New connections are made that help you to feel that you are moving forward.
2009 is a Number Five year for you. Ruled by Mercury. This is a year of exploration and freedom. It's a time when exploration and reaching out to others brings opportunities. It's a good time to advertise and sell. Surprises are in store, and the routine is broken. This is a year when exciting relationships can be formed, or, if you are already in a partnership, new life is breathed into the relationship. Advice - explore, look for adventure, keep your eyes open for opportunities, mingle.
2010 will be a Number Six year for you. Ruled by Venus. This is a year of relative contentment. It is a time when love is the easiest to attract, and partnerships formed under this vibration have a better chance for longevity. You are able to attract others, and material things as well, this year. This is a good year for establishing harmony in the family and in the home. Advice - develop existing relationships, be positive and receptive because these kinds of energies help you to attract what you desire.
I am tired just reading it. All of this blather about being busy and the hectic pace of the year ahead makes me want a nap.
Birthdays aren't as important to me as they once were. I seriously considered going into work today - until I remembered the unused vacation days that I LOST last year. 'To heck with it', I thought and I took the day off.
I slept in, relaxed, and took it easy this morning. I'd like to say that I was presented with breakfast in bed but I was not. In fact . . . I cooked breakfast for the two of us and made the coffee.
Paul treated me to dinner on Sunday. It was easier to celebrate on the weekend when he didn't have to worry about work.
We started off with cheese and crackers, olives, cured meats, and of course martinis.

This was followed by grilled steak with an AMAZING avocado corn salsa, grilled potatoes, and grilled corn with parmigiano basil butter. Yes, we grill everything at this time of year. Build a bridge . . .
We uncorked a bottle of 10 year old Brunello that we had brought back from Italy two trips ago - it was OUTSTANDING and only served to reinforce the great benefit of schlepping wine home from trips, as inconvenient as it may be at times.

Then we had a lemon-raspberry cake that we had picked up at the store (who needs a HUGE home made cake for the two of us?), some of the home-made vanilla bean ice cream that we made before we went to Maine, and the last *sigh* of our vin santo. It was a great meal - thanks Paolo! Far better than ANYTHING we would have gotten in a restaurant.

Today I spent that day gardening and running errands for my mom. My friend Nancy says it is the least I should do because today really should be about mom giving birth to me and not me! I'm not convinced.
I got my hair cut and was happy to not be offered the senior discount.
After lunch with mom I opened up my gifts from her (a much needed cooking utensil, coffee from Central America, and theatre tickets) and I came home and slept! Turning 45 makes you sleepy, I have discovered.
Tonight I'm whipping up dinner because Paolo, poor thing, has had to work all day. Bless his heart. After dinner there is another round of gifts. Lord, it is all I can do not to snoop!
I've been amazed at all of the birthday greetings I've received - the joys of facebook apparently. I does feel nice to be appreciated. *smile*
Thank y'all! It's been a stellar day so far . . .
