Well said Jerry!

Chris

Good post, Jerry! I agree with every single item.

Kendall

A most enjoyable read, thank you.

Excellent tips, Jerry. Very well thought out.

Like you, I didn't travel for years because I thought I couldn't afford it. What a shame -- it IS affordable, especially if you travel independently and plan carefully.

I so agree about not over-planning, and setting aside down time. I think many trips go off the rails because travellers take on too much and make themselves nuts (and then they complain that Rome is insanely hectic and rushed. It's a busy city, yes, but it doesn't have to be insanity inducing. Trying to see everything in two days, is.)

Good stuff, Jerry. You should consider posting this on Slow Travel, maybe even under a "what's your philosophy of travel" thread.

Flexibility, respect and courtesy, clear and honest communication... sounds like it could be a philosophy for life, not just travel

Thanks Barb, Chris, and Kendall.

It is a shame that we didn't start traveling earlier Sandra - just think of how much Italian we'd have in our homes!

Good suggestion (as always) Brad! You're right - these are just good suggestions for being a good person - sadly I'm still wokring on THAT!
