It's been a long time since I featured a drink recipe on the blog. This refreshing version of Ernest Hemingway's favourite beverage is a perfect one with which to reverse that trend!
Mojito (pronounced moe-hee-toe) is Cuba’s most famous cocktail. The name Mojito is rumored to be derived from the word “Mojo”. This refreshingly tasty drink in its purest form is made of five basic ingredients – rum, mint leaves, lime juice, sugar and club soda. You can make umpteen variations of this by adding any fruits of your desire.
I whipped this up on the weekend using fresh mint from the garden and some of the Blackberries that I had in the freezer from last year - it won't be long before the new crop is in and I needed to make room in the freezer! The result was brilliant - believe it or not I only discovered mojitos last year . . . now that i have learned how easy it is to do a riff on the drink with seasonal fruit it promises to be a fine summer indeed!
Blackberry Mojito
5 blackberries
10 mint leaves
1 fresh, sliced lime
1 tsp granulated sugar
2 ounces Rum
2 ounces soda water
Muddle together blackberries (make sure they are squashed), mint, lime, and sugar. Add Rum and ice. Shake 4 times and pour into a tall glass. Top off glass with additional ice if needed and finish with soda water. Garnish with a fresh sprig of mint. Or you can also add a couple of blackberry on top of the drink! Enjoy!!!
Jerry, maybe I missed it but I haven't seen a post/photos of your Bologna trip shopping treasures. Any gifts for Paul?
Need some store recommendations...wine, cheese, kitchen items, olive oil in Bologna. Don't think we'll go to the outlets. Off in a few weeks.

It sure was MSC!
June - there is a ton of fine shopping in Bologna -a lthough we did most of ours at the outlet malls in the area. There are two wonderful kitchen shops nead the 2 toers in the market. Underneath the taller tower is a wonderful store selling arts and crafts from the area. You can buy cheese and vinegar everywhere - although we bought ours directly from the producers on our tours.
I hope that you love Bologna as much as I did.
