Returning home is such a bittersweet thing . . . sure I missed Paul, the cats, and the comforts of home but a vacation is a fine thing. Plus returning home generally means a hellish travel day.
The weather gods knew I was leaving. Yesterday, when I had to pack, the clouds parted and the sunshone. This week the temperature is supposed to get into the mid-70s.
SIGH
The trip home was uneventful. 5:30 am cab to airport. Delta check in lady forgot to charge me for my bag which was 78 lbs (the other was 54). My napsack was FULL. My roller carry-on was full of books, my new watch, 12 boxes of chocolates of various sizes (Easter is coming up), and 6 lbs of coffee. The HUGE Trader Joe's bag was full of 5 loaves of Boudin sourdough bread, Ghiradelli chocolates, soaps, and 'plane' magazines.
I was looking about for the defibrillators after lugging all of this crap to the airport.
I was through security and eating breakfast in Perry's by 6:15.
Plane headed to Minneapolis at 7:50. I rarely sleep on the plane - this time I had a middle seat and the guy on the left and woman on the right were CHATTY. I slept for three hours.
I was unimpressed with the airport at first. Apparently they have been renovating it and the terminal we landed in is the last to be done. Once I left that terminal the shopping and restaurant choices were great. Of course, the distance between the gate in which we arrived and the gate I was to depart from was LONG. After walking for 30 minutes I discovered that they gate had been changed while I was on my hike.
I didn't care. I dropped everything for a sandwich and a beer. And a second beer. When I signalled the waitress for the bill she thought I wanted a THIRD beer and brought it over quickly.
There were 4 hockey teams on the plane to Buffalo.
Happily I slept for an hour.
My luggage arrived quickly. I got the shuttle over to the Fairfield where I had left my car for the past 8 days.
Paul asked me to pick up a few things at the store before I headed back to Canada.
I sailed though customs . . . neglecting to claim my 14 bottles of wine. It wasn't long before I was home.
Tomorrow . . . back to the office . . . sigh.
Life does have a way of keeping us grounded Jerry.
