Jerry, great post! I like seeing this side of you and your commitment to kids, teachers and education.

Diana Strinati Baur

wow. just effing wow. I don't even know how to begin to comment. God bless that woman. Oh. what a friggen mess. It's hard not to get disheartened.

Just ordered Diane Ravitch's book for my Kindle. It sounds like it would be a book I might be very interested in. I've thought a lot about all the standardized testing in the American schools and how it's really ruined education for students and teachers alike. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for publishing the letter I wrote to President Obama. I can't begin to tell you what happened because of it. I got to meet Diane when she gave a talk in Seaside Ca. People sent over $3500 to my class (we used it for science camp) CNN called me to do an Op-ed (didn't pan out - boooooo) I got to read the letter at a teachers' convention in LA to over 500 educators.
But the real issue is that children of poverty are hosed.
These are dark times indeed for public educators - alas...

thanks for posting it.

Paul - i don't know how you do what you do but I'm glad that you're there to try and give those kids the chance they deserve! I hope that you have a restful summer to refuel for the new school year.
