It's time for another edition of Sandi's blog 'event' - Travel Tuesdays. It's easy to play (I like THAT!) all you need to do is to post one of your travel pics (and who doesn't have a gazillion of those) and then pop on over to Sandi's blog to join her Linky.
Last week I posted about Acqui Terme, our first stop in Piemonte where we'll stay at the Baur B and B. When we load up the car to leave this area we'll be driving to the capital of Piemonte - Torino. Some dismiss Torino as the Detriot of Italy. Sure, FIAT is king here but this city is so much more than a car town.
Clearly they know nothing about the prestigious Michelin Guide’sclassification of Torino as a “three-star city” along with Florence, Venice and Rome. This is because Torino offers a quality of life made up of art, culture, gastronomy and art de vivre that can only be found here.
During the day, it is possible to go for a walk through the streets or under the 18 kilometres of arcades to admire the store windows of the fashion world’s finest designers or to visit artisans’ shops. Then there is the pleasure of wandering around through the many markets: from Porta Palazzo, Europe’s largest outdoor market, to Balon, the famous flea market that features antique goods. There are many other markets to be visited, from neighbourhood markets to those which carry typical gastronomic products.
When the time comes for a break, there are many time-honoured cafes to choose from that are a part of Torino’s customs and culture. We love sitting in the baroque elegance - order a glass of wine or a drink and you get a plate of food!
At night, Torino offers a thousand opportunities to meet people, dance and stay out until late at night at bars, discotheques and wine cellars that are open late in the old town centre, the Quadrilatero Romano, the Murazzi district as well as those of Borgo Dora and San Salvario.
A good time will be had, yes it will.
Looks like a fabulous city!
