First, before I commence this rant let me be the first to say that i love Christmas. I love everything about it - baking, shopping, cooking, parties, gifts, wrapping, decorating, special moments with family, TV shows, music - everything. It seems the only thing about Christmas that I don't care for is when it arrives on November 4th.
I snapped a titch today.
Perhaps more than a titch.
Here is what happened. I was at a newly reopened grocery store this afternoon with a full cart. Heading to the cashier I heard this sound . . .
In the meadow we can build a snowman,
then pretend that he is Parson Brown.
He'll say 'Are You Married?' We'll say 'No man,
but you can do the job when you're in town!
BOOM
Head explosion. It's November 4th - I still haven't cleaned up the gardens. I don't want to hear about a bloody winter wonderland. Then there was the fact that it's some 10 weeks until Christmas . . . perhaps the Christmas music can wait until december?
I abandoned my cart and left the store. Iwon't be back until December when I believe the playing of Christmas music is appropriate. That one ill-advised song has cost the store $ 500 in sales at least over the next 4 weeks.
When I got home I found the Longos fan page on facebook and posted the following:
Dear Longos - today I was in your newly reopened store in Burlington.
Cart full to the brim, I was heading to the cashier when I head 'Walking in A Winter Wonderland' over your music system. It's November 4th. I don't want to hear about Winter Wonderlands and I don't want Christmas music (and I LOVE Christmas).
I abandoned my cart and I won't be back to listen until December. Playing Christmas music 10 weeks before Christmas just cost you $ 500.
I guess you can say I'm NOT a fan right now.
Later I saw this cartoon that Kim posted on FB - sure it's American (turkey time has already come and gone here in Canada) but it sums up how I am feeling!
I totally agree!!

And while we're at it: can we all complain about the music that is played all year, at full volume, in every store and public place ALL the time??!!??!
I have the right to peace and quiet, and I don't want to be forced to listen.
I too leave the stores when this is going on,even more so at "Christmas in November", so I hear you loud and clear!
GRR!

It is a funny cartoon isn't it Barb - glad that kim posted it on FB!
I can imagine SJ - happily I'm able to tune loud sounds out . . . but not when it's Christmas apparently. LOL
