Yes, I am well aware of the fact that it is now Thursday and I should have moved on from Easter by now. Sadly I received so much chocolate that I won't move on until my waistline has grown 2 inches and I've suffered a bout of acne or eight. moving on is never easy.
Anyway.
We had a blast on Easter Sunday! It started quiet with Paolo and I, got a bit more exciting when mom arrived at 2, and then got rolling at 5 when the rest of the guests arrived.
Paul wanted French toast for breakfast. Somewhere I had seen a picture of French Toast made with caramelized bananas. Paul was sold as soon as I mentioned it.
Then I couldn't find the recipe. SIGH
What was an enterprising cook to do?
I made one up and I must say it was one of the best things I have ever made.
After cleaning up the breakfast mess we finished setting the table for dinner.
We had suggested to mom that she arrive at 2. Don't tell her but we didn't want her to come until 3 but she is always late. We figured she might actually arrive on time if we said 2! It worked so we now have a new trick up our sleeves.
SHHHH
She had a treat for the kitties - cat grass.
Apparently Beckett likes salad. Who knew?
While the kitties nibbled on the grass we started the annual Easter basket hunt. Clues are hidden throughout the house and one must solve the riddles in order to find a basket full of goodies.
The last clue is always tied to the cat's collar. I would just grab the cat right off, take the clue, and be done with it, but not mom and Paul. Perhaps it was because I once threatened to tie a clue on a passing duck . . . they are never too sure just how serious I am.
The cats LOVED their catnip toys.
When our guests arrived we nibbled on appetizers and caught up.
Cheese and crackers, baked brie with blueberries, deviled eggs, kielbasa, phyllo-wrapped asparagus spears, and spinach dip.
Later we moved into the dining room for the main event. It was tasty but for some reason I took no photos! We served honey-baked ham, scalloped potatoes, an amazing peas and carrot recipe (mom declared it to be a keeper!), and egg bread.
For dessert I made pies. One of our guests turns 90 this year and all she really likes is dessert. I asked her daughter earlier in the week what her favourite dessert was and was told 'pie'. I figure if you're turning 90 you should be spoiled. I made a banana cream pie and a key lime pie. Florence had a piece of BOTH and ate every crumb.
My friend Sandi sent me the recipe for the Key Lime pie - it was a 'keeper' too!
Paul had to work on Easter Monday but I was off so I spent the day eating chocolate and recovering!
It sounds like you had the best time Jerry!!! Good food and company.

Wow, you do holidays so spectacularly around there! It's always fun to see all of this. Those felt baskets are unique, I have never seen one of those before. Cat grass? New one on me. Maybe I should know about that since I might get a cat again at some point. I wouldn't have a clue where to start with all this food...so may choices! That French Toast looks deadly...but that would not have stopped me from indulging...lol! Fun post, and who cares what day it comes on, it was just great to see it all.

I LOVE your Easter Egg hunt tradition, especially with the last clue tied to your kitty! I'm going to borrow this great idea!

It was great bellini - I also appreciated that the time in the kitchen was minimal - lots of time to chat and giggle with friends and family!
Thanks Kayte. Those felt bastes were from Target. :-) Indulging is a good thing once in awhile Kayte but not every day . . .
