Last week I was talking with the two friends we will be exploring Tscanywith (in less than 2 months - woo hoo) about possibilities for visiting Pisa. It's about 2.5 hours by car from where we'll be staying so I'm not thinking a possibility for a day trip exists, however it is only an hour from Florence and there is a train every 30 minutes so there may be some options there.
When we first visited Italy we drove to Pisa - it was a LONG drive with congestion and plenty of construction. We were a titch disappointed with our experience because everything seemed so touristy and junky. We wandered around the campo dei miracoli - got angry at the crowds and left.
Nonetheless, I'm heading back to Pisa for this week's edition of Travel Tuesdays!
Jerry, if you do decide to make the drive ,I wanted to mention that if you haven't experienced the acousitics demonstration in the baptistry, try and get to it. It was really something to hear.
Wish we could see more coloured marble like the exterior of the buildings in our part of the world.
We found the area around the tower to be quite touristy too so we walked a couple of streets away from the area and found some restaurants and had a nice lunch.
Lucky you. We do enjoy Italy a lot.
We are off to Germany for the first time on May 1

Spelling of acoustics is incorrect. Apologies and I need to watch my fingers more closely!

I bet you'll love Germany. It certainly had me going back.
I'll remind Nancy and Joanne about the acoustics thing in Pisa - I had forgotten all about that.
