This week's Photo Hunt theme is 'beam'.
These shots were taken in Naples, Italy during our visit to the National Archaeological Museum.
This giant room, one of the largest in Europe, is also home to a giant sun dial built between 1790 and 1793. Designed by Pompeo Schiantarelli , spanning more than 27 meters , the sun dial consists of a strip of brass located between marble panels in which are embedded pretty painted medallions depicting the twelve signs of the zodiac . At noon , the sunlight penetrates a hole placed high in the South- West corner of the ceiling, the beam falls on the meridian line of the floor , marking the seasons ...
I think this museum might be on our agenda this year... Looking forward to it!
