This week's Photo Hunt theme is 'custom'.
In Rome it is a custom to throw a coin into the Trevi fountain . . .it is said that doing so will guarantee your return to the city.
Throwing coins into the Trevi Fountain has become a ritual to the thousands of tourists who come from all over the world to visit Rome. There are actually two superstitious legends to explain why people are obsessed with throwing coins: the first says that if you throw a coin from your right hand backwards over your left shoulder, you will definitely return to Rome. The second legend inspired the film "Three Coins in the Trevi Fountain", which says you must throw three coins into the fountain: the first guarantees your return to Rome, the second leads to a new romance, while the third will lead to marriage!
The Municipality of Rome decided to collect the coins from the Trevi Fountain on a daily basis to prevent theft and created a fund to finance a special supermarket that serves the poor in Rome with the help from the Italian Red Cross
I took this photo on our first visit to Rome in 2006 and we've been back 4 times since so it must work! :-)
That is a custom I would love to partake in one day!

I have heard of this custom of throwing a coin into the Trevi fountain. I have yet to visit Rome and I would certainly throw a coin into the fountain should I be there one day :D
