Our plans for Easter Sunday were much as they normally are - big breakfast, Easter basket hunt, friends and family for dinner. Things got a little wonky though because mom was sick and decided not to come by. This is the first year in many years we never had the hunt. The clues are all set up - attached to things throughout the house and the baskets of treats hidden - but with mom spending the day in bed we just weren't in the mood.
Breakfast was a Gruyere and Bacon Tart with hashed brown casserole and fruit.
After breakfast was over and we had tidied everything up Paul set the table . . .
It was about that time that mom called and said she wouldn't be coming for dinner.
We decided to hop into the car (any excuse to drive about in the new car *smile*) to drive over and see how she was doing. Needless to say, she was a mess, spending the day in bed was a good choice for her. I tried to get her email set up but had no luck. It looks like her new computer is basically a doorstop. SIGH
The plans for dinner were fairly simple (for us) so we had time to nap and sit outside enjoying the sunshine. Dante came out and explored a bit - the sun seemed to be just the thing to help him feel a bit better.
We started with apps in the family room - grilled lamb lollipops with garlic, yogurt dip, cheese, deviled eggs, and kielbasa.
After a bottle of wine, treats, and many giggles later we moved in the dining room for the main event.
Glazed Ham . . .
. . . Potato and Cheese Gratin . . .
. . . peas and carrots with a dill vinaigrette . . .
For dessert mom had made a favourite from my childhood - very 70s - a Grape Juice Bavarian. It is sort of like a grape mousse - we wanted something light after all of that food and it was perfect.
