I am almost loath to type this for fear of jinxing things but yesterday was probably one of the smoothest travel days I have ever had. Generally there is all sorts of thins which crop up to annoy - yesterday there were none. In fact, I'd say it was the opposite - things popped up to make us happy!
I should point out that a wonderful former student of mine, made some things happen for us. She travels to NY a lot for business and she certainly knows her away around the city. In fact, the hotel we are staying in is the one she always uses.
When we arrived at the hotel we were advised we were being upgraded. Thank Leith.
We were getting settled in our room when there was a knock on the door and this showed up:
Later, while I was having a quick shower, there was another knock on the door. This time a beautiful vase of flowers was delivered.
All of these wonderful things were thanks to Leith.
Dinner was at 8:15 at Babbo - a restaurant we've wanted to go to for a LONG time. Leith made arrangements through the hotel concierge for our reservations - the best I could get through open table was a 5:00 time slot.
We headed out early so we could wander around Greenwich Village a bit.
I'm just going to post some pics - more commentary later - because we need to get ready to head up the Empire State Building soon. :-)
Dinner was FABULOUS - that will be a whole post on its own. The best part was when Paul's dessert arrived:
More Leith created magic.
We decided to walk back to the hotel where we finished off the champagne and Paul opened his birthday gifts.
All in all, it was an amazing welcome to NY.
Today we're off to the Empire State Building, walking the Highline, enjoying a Greenwich Village food tour, and having dinner at a Bobby Flay restaurant - Gatto.
Happy Canada Day everyone!
