Two weeks today is our first full-day in Krakow.
We actually arrive on Saturday but I never count a overseas travel day. Exhaustion, time change, and the indignities of modern travel have a rather blurring effect.
We'll be staying in the Radison Blu for two nights.
Poland is incredibly cheep it seems - I was able to book a suite for the cost of what I'd pay for a closet-sized room in the US or Canada. The hotel has an excellent location minutes from the major historical sites.
After two nights we move to an apartment. The original plan was to be in the apartment for a week but by the time I went to book it someone had reserved it for the weekend.
The apartment is incredibly cheap - 100 bucks a night for a two bedroom apartment, excellent location, AND parking (not that we'll have a car but that is pretty well unheard of).
We had first spoken of heading to Krakow a few years ago. I found this apartment, bookmarked it, but then we never went. I'm glad that we are finally taking advantage of it now.
We haven't made a ton of plans for the trip. The first few days and the last few days are all free. I like to do this when traveling to get a sense of a new location and then have some time at the end to go back and revisit some things before we leave. I also find that with weird closing times it is good to have a few free days before you leave in case a visit to a must-see museum or site has to be rescheduled.
We have a tour booked of Auschwitz, the famous salt mines, and a craft beer/food walking tour.
Normally I have a list of sites I want to see, a few restaurant reservations, some theatre or music to take in, and shops I want to visit.
I've done none of that!
In fact, other than what you see above, the only thing I have done is ordered some Polish currency!
I guess that I am ready!
