With the development of so-called 'ever bearing' strawberries the once short season is extended although it is gradually coming to an end. We took advantage of this last night turning the last few delicious berries into this amazing drink.
I told Paul that I was mixing up a martini and he informed me that he was cutting back on alcohol consumption as a health kick. No doubt he has a doctor appointment coming up requiring blood tests. LOL I wanted to be supportive so I shelved the plans . . . until he looked at the recipe and decided one might be 'OK'.
Well folks, it was not just OK, it was an amazing drink! If you have any good, fresh strawberries near you do give it a try.
Strawberry Basil Martini
3 strawberries, plus 1 thin slice
3 basil leaves
1/2 ounce Simple Syrup
Ice
1 ounce gin
1 ounce vodka
1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
In a cocktail shaker, muddle the strawberries with the basil leaves and Simple Syrup. Add ice and the remaining ingredients and shake well. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with the strawberry slice.
