Now that Pail is no longer working weekends we have a bit more time to do things together. We were expected to get torrential rain Saturday night through Sunday morning so we figured we had better get out and explore on Saturday while the exploring was still dry.
We went to a waterfront park that we used to visit often when I lived in Hamilton. Upon arrival we discovered that it was the location of two cross country running races - one was a bit more competitive than the other. The first was the Ontario University Cross Country finals. The other race was a community race where people dressed up in Halloween costumes.
After wandering the park (and avoiding getting in the middle of a race), we headed to a restaurant I've wanted to visit for awhile - the Saltlick Smokehouse. This is not a place for vegetarians. The menu is full of glorious meat options - all slowly grilled over hardwood or lightly battered and fried. This is considered to be one of the best BBQ restaurants in the area.
We both ordered sandwiches with three sides - cole slaw, mac and cheese, and baked beans. The food was amazing - and the portions huge. I'll be having my leftovers today for lunch!
If you are out for lunch or dinner in the James Street area of Hamilton, stop in to Saltlick. The food is delicious, and the service is friendly.
